Issues
Rochester is a great place to live, work and raise a family. While there are many issues that need attention, the ones listed below are just a few that I feel are important. Regardless of the issue, I intend to bring a willingness to listen, evaluate ideas and exercise sound decision-making. And of course, please feel free to drop me a note with your thoughts on these or any other issue.
Cooperative Government
Government is increasingly challenged to provide services for a growing population. As demands increase we must find creative ways of partnering and we must do so in a manner that:
- Engages and informs the public
- Is transparent in conducting business
- Is accountable to the taxpayer
Fiscal Responsibility
With an annual budget in excess of $171 million, city government must exercise common sense and fiscal responsibility to remain healthy financially and allow ourselves the flexibility to provide needed services.
Community Lighting Fee – As I’ve been walking the neighborhoods I frequently hear questions about the proposed new community lighting fee. This is a bit of a complex topic so I invite you to read a couple of views on the topic – one from Councilmember Bob Nowicki and one from Councilmember Michael Wojcik. Regardless of how you feel on the matter, I am more than happy to discuss so please feel free to send along your questions.
Managed Growth
Rochester has experienced phenomenal growth where our population exceeds 100,000 and a land area of 54 square miles. This raises many important questions related to affordable housing, public safety, infrastructure, environmental protection, and traffic among others.
Downtown Development
We have a wonderful selection of shops, restaurants and civic amenities in downtown Rochester. We need to think about the future goals for downtown Rochester as master planning efforts continue to evolve. At the same time we must not forget the needs in other parts of our city.
